Sunscorched Mesa

Bleached by the sun. Marked by the earth. Sunscorched Mesa Relic captures a completely different side of California Mahogany.

This unique block is composed almost entirely of the wood’s pale sapwood, broken only by a handful of dark natural streaks running through the grain. Rather than covering those contrasts, the natural cracks and voids have been filled with a flat Southwestern orange acrylic, bringing to mind sunbaked clay, canyon walls, and streaks of desert color cutting through weathered stone.

The lighter sapwood gives this piece a rugged, almost sun-bleached appearance, while the scattered darker grain provides just enough contrast to remind you of the rich heartwood hidden deeper within the tree. The muted orange fill finishes the look without overpowering the natural character of the wood.

Part of the Desert Relics Collection, Sunscorched Mesa feels less like something that was manufactured and more like something unearthed after a hundred years beneath the desert sun.
